Peterborough - Ipswich (2010-02-16)

Other Leagues

Jim Gannon will do everything in his powers in order to motivate his players and get them back to the winning ways after two consecutive losses to Cardiff and Middlesbrough, which limited their relegation battle to theory only. Last Saturday, Peterborough played using only one striker, and the goal of such tactics was to create a “crowd” in the midfield and make Middlesbrough play long passes that way, but it’s hard to believe Gannon will decide to do that in front of his fans in probably the most deciding clash. Peterborough’s manager won’t be able to count on defender Tom Williams for this game. He started all 3 matches since Gannon took over the London Road side, but surprisingly he allowed him to move to Preston for a loan. Scott Griffiths will probably get back to the squad instead of Williams, while Craig Mackail-Smith is hoping to return to the starting lineup after missing the Middlesbrough clash. Centre-back Gabriel Zakuani is still injured and won’t be able to play against Ipswich.

Paying the price for a poor start

Under Manchester United’s legend’s lead, Roy Keane, Ipswich has started the season badly and were winless for quite a long time. However, in the past few months they clearly improved their form and managed to get out of relegation zone. What remained their main problem is that they’re not recording constantly good results so this away game will give them an excellent opportunity to record two consecutive road victories for the first time this season. Roy Keane’s side recorded a win in the last away game when they faced QPR and currently have one point more than the teams inside the relegation zone, and in case they win this match, they will have as many as 15 points more than Peterborough. Daryl Murphy, the newcomer from Sunderland, will probably keep his starting place as he scored a goal in both of the matches since he arrived. Goalie Richard Wright is near fully recovery but the Argentinean international Luciano Civelli won’t be back to the pitch in the next 6 months.

Advantage to the visitors

Ipswich is a team that drew the most games in Championship and that’s the only fact that could make you think twice before betting on this match. Peterborough has recorded only one win in the past 2 months and it was against QPR, which is totally falling apart. I believe the visitors will use their opportunity to move even further away from the relegation zone and record a new win.
